Preferences in diaper fetishism - Like many fetishes, personal preference plays a large role in which communities the fetishist will identify with. In diaper fetishism, one of the primary divisions of preference is whether or not the diapers are used for their intended purpose, and if so, to what degree. Many diaper lovers gain arousal from "wetting" or urinating in their diapers. A smaller number gain the same arousal from using the diaper to "mess" or defecate. Some fetishists do not use their diapers at all.

Adult babies and diaper lovers have always been faced with a stigma from the general public because of the relationship between diapers and babies. People automatically associate that because a grown adult enjoys wearing diapers or just wears diapers in general that they are some how associated with a child. This stigma has cursed the ABDL community since the inception of the community. Websites and TV shows have portrayed the community mainly in a negative light without even trying to understand the truth behind the reality of the mindset of adult babies and diaper lovers. There are the select few like there are in any group of people that are going to give a group a bad name but it does not represent the majority mindset among a community. I understand that TV and websites only portray the exaggerated aspect of the ABDL community because that is entertainment and by degrading others it makes the viewers feel superior and more powerful which in turn leads to them watching the show or reading the web page because they can sit there and feel better about themselves while looking down upon others.
I fully agree that wearing diapers - although embarrassing and difficult for me to embrace in the beginning - does give me confidence nowadays in public situations. I don't enjoy walking around in a noticeably wet, full or leaking diaper, or a diaper that I've pooped in (yes, it does happen occasionally, thankfully not often), but ya gotta do wat ya gotta do until you get the opportunity to change in private. I've learned to adjust my walk so it is not so obvious that my diaper is full, or that I am even wearing a diaper. A poop-filled diaper is definitely not enjoyable, neither is that diaper change or cleaning myself (I wish there were large wet wipes available in public restroom stalls for just those types of situations.)
Overall, the response is what I expected. You have a lot of people who like it and would get involved with it and then you have the people who say it is too obvious. It is basically exactly the response I expected except that I got a lot more positives than I thought. Here is the thing, many people say that it is not a “flag” or doesn’t look like other fetish symbols or logos but that is not what this community is about. I don’t consider the ABDL community like ANY other community – I think we are unique. We are not a fetish per se – we are a unique lifestyle. I don’t think there is any other community like ours…fetishes are more sexual but for a vast majority of the ABDL community – it is not all sexual, it is more about comfort, security, the feeling, the look, the crinkle, and the list goes on. Adoption of a symbol is not going to be easy nor fluent among the whole community. But, I think it is important to at least throw one out there. Everyone is going to have their own suggestion but until one is actually thrown into the community and people start embracing it – nothing will ever come to fruition.
